Locked Down in Aldeburgh?

Recording the pandemic

We are going through an unprecedented period of change hardship and loss for so many in our town and country. Most Aldeburgh businesses have shut their doors, many people are confined to their homes, community events have been cancelled, and help has had to be arranged for the most vulnerable. We have also witnessed remarkable instances of people volunteering to help their friends and neighbours as we strive to keep our community together.
We are living through a historic moment, and Aldeburgh Museum would like to share and preserve your stories documenting life in Aldeburgh during the COVID-19 pandemic.  We aim to be a gathering point for community narratives, images, records, art, and other forms of response to the impacts of COVID-19. How is this affecting your life, family, or business? What feelings are you experiencing? Have you noticed any new changes, strategies, or better ways of doing things?

If so please let us know and be a part of history.
You could:
  • Write: Keep a Journal or diary, write poetry, write a short essay
  • Create Art: Draw or paint
  • Start a video blog or speak into a recorder
  • Take photographs or video of your environment/community/life in quarantine
  • Send us records from your business or organisation that document how it responded to the crisis (social media posts, e-mail or mail correspondence, business announcements, etc.)
  • Save and record your social media posts

We will be collecting stories throughout the duration of the crisis. If you have paper materials you wish to donate, you can scan them and send us digital copies, or we can scan them later.
